Scrivener: Turn Your Mac Into a Writers Office
App creators Literature and Latte bring a new kind of word processor to the Mac. Not just one that has font selection, paragraph options, and print settings, but one that lets the user organize their work. They call it Scrivener.

Scrivener helps the user organize their thoughts, manage their project, and write what they want to write. Key features include a Corkboard with index cards to organize parts of your article/essay/paper, fullscreen typing (imagine Writeroom with lots of extra features), a built in outliner, and a built in text editor. Scrivener also lets the user organize photos, movies, PDFs, web pages, and notes that might be associated with the project. Scrivener also has a screenplay and stageplay mode, where it formats the document appropriately. Scrivener also exports to any major word processor.
Pros: Tons of features, organization, fullscreen, nice UI, a complete writing application with nothing left out.
Cons: May be a bit too much for anyone who wants a simple word processor, no formatting inspector (only menu formatting).
Price: $34.99

For a much simpler solution, I use OmniOutliner Pro (http://www.omnigroup.com) for brainstorming, and WriteRoom (http://www.hogbaysoftware.com/product/writeroom) for distraction-free writing. Both cost money, but you can use OmniOutliner (-Pro) and I believe you can get WriteRoom 1.0 for free (http://www.hogbaysoftware.com/files/releases/WriteRoom-1.0.dmg). That’s the version I use.
I bet Glenn will be getting this….
Looks nice, but I’m not gonna pay $35 USD for it.
I love the idea of the cork board! I’m going to give this a try… could come in handy when doing school work. Unfortunately it’s $35, but hey! Not everything can be free
.
Hey guys, it would be worth pointing out in the article that’s there’s a “lite” version that’s called Scrivener Gold. It has most of the features, it’s just not as sexy. Check it out, this one’s free.
Scrivener Gold is an early beta version of Scrivener that they made publicly available. Since it is an unfinished early version of Scrivener with bugs, I didn’t include it in the post.
Would you recommend this for writing notes on while in a class? Because at my school we are allowed laptops to write notes, most people just use a basic word processor such as word, but that is difficult to organise your files with.
this is amaizing soft, im using freeware beta now, but thinking of buying licence as it very usefull for me! thanks macapper for such usefull link!
cool blog!
