But for users of 10.4, if all you want is widgets that aren&#039;t on the dashboard, I recommend getting the free Tinkertool app ( http://www.bresink.com/osx/TinkerTool.html ) and switching the &quot;developer mode&quot; on in the general tab. This allows you to drag widgets off of the dashboard (drag them and deactive dashboard) and onto the desktop. Admittedly, they don&#039;t become applications, but you don&#039;t have to keep dashboard open and you don&#039;t have to pay ten bucks. (Yes, I&#039;m a cheapskate.)</description>
