ArtRage 2: Turn Your Mac Into A Canvas
There are tons of options when it comes to graphic arts on the Mac. From Photoshop to Preview, there are countless apps, some more advanced, some easier to use, and some just plain weird. However, for all the options availiable, they’re all pretty much the same. Some have vector capabilities, but most are just a grid of pixels with an array of tools to manipulate them with.
ArtRage 2 is different. Instead of trying to be precise and grid-like, it emulates a canvas, and does pretty well at it too. The tools and interface are a bit strange, they pop in and out as necessary from the edges, but they are pretty functional nonetheless. Choose between a collection of artistic tools: a paintbrush, a crayon, a marker, or even spray paint.

I tried out the tools myself, and my favorite was a tube of paint and the spatula smeary tool. I squirted out a little paint of the color I desired, and then smeared it around until I got what I thought looked alright. So here you go, my masterpiece.

ArtRage 2 comes in two flavors, the full featured $19.95 “ArtRage 2 Full Edition”, or the “ArtRage 2 Free Edition” with some features left out. You can see all the differences between them here.

I also love the smearing spatula, it’s a lot of fun. You can see my masterpiece here: . By the way, for those too lazy to check out the website, the main differences between the free and pay versions are layers, more tools & brushes, and a cool feature where you can paint on your canvas while seeing a semi-tranparent photo over it, so you can cheat when doing portraits and stuff like that.
look at this guy,is great
YOU rocks GUYS!
thanks!
greetings from brazil!
I must admit to buying this program after a day of use. I like to play around sketching and stuff to relax at the end of a day sometimes, also it’s ability to pin reference photo’s to the canvas and zoom in and out on them while sketching is a great feature. Keep up the good work guys
