Keyboard Cleaner: Questionably Useful

Dropped a piece of potato chip into your MacBook Pro’s keyboard and can’t shut down for risk losing that torrent just to clean it out? This is where one of the most questionably useful applications to be released comes into play.

Keyboard Cleaner was developed by Jan Lehnardt, mostly for the laptop crowd. Keyboard Cleaner blanks the screen and render the keyboard useless, making it possible to clean out any unwanted gunk from between your keys. When finished, Apple+Q gets you back to whatever it was you were doing before that food/dirt/fingernail/etc. went astray and ruined your blogging session. Anothe use could be locking down the keyboard when walking away from your computer to prevent feline or canine interference with your latest script.

It’s only a 36kb download and Keyboard Cleaner has been released as donationware. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I just lost a piece of my Tostito in my keyboard..

Stop a torrent by shutting down? I assume that torrent would be of legal nature… ;)

A separate app just for this? TextEdit, anyone?

This is nice, I usually just pop up textedit, but blanking the screen would help me find all those smudges that are hard to see when it’s lit.

Does it do more than just textedit?
I wonder, because if you type the right (or maybe WRONG) combination of keys, such as Cmd+Q, Cmd+Tab, Cmd+W, etc, it would switch away to another app that you could wreak havoc in.

I’ve actually been looking for something like this. My MacBook Pro quickly gets dirty. I occasionally find strands of my pet’s hair trapped in the keyboard.
