Mac Gamer’s Savior: Connect 360

We all love our Macs, but it’s hard disagree with the fact that PCs are just better at gaming. My Powerbook isn’t exactly going to run Doom 3 at 60fps, so I have to resort to console gaming.

I use the Xbox 360 (yes, a Microsoft product!), due to its great selection of games, online experience, and media capabilities. It’s capable of streaming music, photos, and movies from a PC. That’s where us Mac users get let down; Microsoft has it set up so only Media Center PCs work with it.

That’s where Nullriver software saves the day with Connect360. The program is a simple Preference pane, but don’t let the simplicity of it turn you away, the program does quite a bit.

All you have to do is install the program, and click start. The program will index your files. Once your 360 is turned on, Connect360 will chime, and the files are ready to go. Simple and effective. The only draw back I could find was that only WMV and WMA movies can be shared, but that’s the 360’s downfall.

Connect 360 is available for $20. The trial version allows 100 songs, 100 photos, and 5 movies to be shared. Check it out.

I have Connect 360 and it works great! Thats all i can really say.

Just a note, more than just media center PCs work with the 360. Any computer with Windows XP and a network connection will do.

Andre, thanks for pointing that out. I guess I worded it badly. I was ust trying to get across the point that Macs can’t do that with out the help of Connect360.
