NetNewsWire 3.0 Beta Released As “Sneak Peek Ware”

Newsgator and Ranchero Software have released a new version of their wildy popular RSS reader, NetNewWire. Version 3.0d46 has been released to the public as a “Sneak Peek” which is described as pre-beta (and I’d imagine something comparable to an Alpha release).

NetNewsWire 3.0 Sneak Peek

The software is not yet feature-complete, but still shows lotf of promise. New features include Spotlight searches, a combined view, cover art for feeds, full screen mode, Growl notifications, a thumbnailed tab view, show/hide subscriptions option, the ab ility to add any image to your iPhoto library, add author to your Address Book and a feed pop-up button. Ranchero suggests that you back up your preferences and data folders before instaling and running the pre-release software.

So if you’re comfortable with pre-released software, head over and download the Sneak Peek, for those of you more comfortable with official releases, you can download the latest stable release of NetNewsWire or NewNewsWire Lite.

Alpha or not, I’ve been trying it out for a few days now, and I haven’t run into a single glitch, bug or crash. I’m very impressed. The new interface is much better, I love the visual tabs, and the Growl support is always good. Highly recommended.

I would be looking forward to their release with the new features though I don’t really see myself using those iPhoto integration thingy, cover art for feeds and full screen mode. Why would you need them from an RSS Feed Reader?

Hmm, I previously used NetNewsWire, but then switched over to NewsFire. The new beta looks interesting, but I’m not sure if any of those features are compelling enough for me to switch back. RSS readers seem to be a thing of personal preference, and NewsFire feels the best to me.

[...] RSS is great; it saves you having to surf around hundreds of websites to get news. An RSS reader pulls all your news into one place and we’ve reviewed many here at MacApper (NewsFire, roundup, Feeder, and NetNewsWire). [...]
