KIT: Keep It Together

KIT, which stands for Keep It Together, can be considered an updated Scrapbook. (For those that don’t remember, it was a Desk Accessory from the pre-OS X days.) It can store many kinds of snippets you want organized, such as notes, documents, images, sounds, movies, bookmarks, and archived webpages. It also makes it very easy to find what you need by using services such as Smart Groups and categories

kit-main-window

KIT is a great application for multitaskers. It can work as a way to store information you need to grab quickly. An interesting feaure lets you archive entire webpages. Great for reports, or to have a copy of the source you used in case it goes down - a great way to read websites offline during the boring commute to work. The note feature is a solid jot pad for things like to do lists, storing canned responses, or even taking quick notes in school.

KIT Note Window

What I like about this app are the small things that just make it oh-so-useful. One example is the easy way to import into the program. You can do that from either the Services menu (App name>Services) in the menu bar, or through the dock icon. Handy.

KIT is shareware, priced at $24.95. Which is well worth it, for such a useful program with a great Aqua interface.

As usual, if you can’t afford the $25 price tag (or just like free stuff), we are giving away 3 licenses to lucky readers! To enter, just post a clever comment below. A winner will be picked in 1 week. (High five to Steve Harris, the developer, for generously donating these licenses.)

What? You need us to be clever? Oh my.
    Well…
    err…
    umm…
What’s up with this ad up there?
It says “The 17-inch iMac is missing a few features you might like–SuperDrive and a remote control, to name two–but it still makes a stellar home PC, thanks to its great design, new Core 2 Duo processor, and superior ”

It’s not very enticing if you first thing you say about a product is what it’s missing. At least if you’re going to do that, link to its bigger counterpart.
    Now give me KIT!

How does this compare to Journler?
I’m currently testing Journler and as it’s free for personal use I like to know what I’d get for $25.

Hmm.. I downloaded this once and for some reason I just never liked it quite as much as I liked Yojimbo. Maybe I should give it another whirl.. that is if you give me a free license? ;)

ooooh free stuff? I like free stuff. And free stuff worth $25 is even better. Unless of course the other stuff was worth more than $25.

This problem looks like an excellent improvement of my current system of just saving everything to the desktop until I get annoyed by the utter mess and throw everything into a folder and never look at the folder again. Its just like when I was a kid and cleaning my room simply meant jamming everything into the closet, until it could barely close, only digital.

That website saving bit is sounds especially useful, I am always using firefox’s save page feature but having all of them saved as a list is something I’ve actually been on the hunt for.

And now to turn my comment to maximum cleverness, I’ll do something so clever no one would ever think of, ever and suck up to the staff. You guys rawk. man I am so clever.

I’ve seen this app before and it looks very interesting. I’ve been using Yojimbo but it can’t handle multiple file formats. KIT can handle almost anything.

I have to get my life in order. Is KIT the answer?

i am not good with clever comments, how about honest one? i dont see how KIT is able to import everything i have stored in other similar apps like yojimbo in one single intuitive way. if i have a lot of categories to import into KIT, i wont bother importing them 1 by 1. KIT should provide some kind of feature to import database from others with 1 / 2 click so i can move on and be happy with my roi of 25 bucks.

So, I’m just wondering if I get any cool David Hasselhoff/Knight Rider memorabilia with a purchase of KIT?

Hmm, most of the authors here are likely too young to have any memory of Knight Rider. Too bad that was the best I could do for a clever comment. : )

This looks like a great app.

Ok so there was this one time i stayed up WAY to late doing some web programming. I was all done (sort of) so I hopped on digg.com. Well, basically I couldn’t stop digging and somehow i stumbled across this awesome article that said it was giving away free KIT license and i was like WHOA cool because I was JUST finishing my multitasking work. I looked into the application some more (i had only heard about it before) but yea- you’re article got me super excited. So- i’ve been awake for about 30hours now and i’m not really sure what i’m saying anymore but i think i’m pretty sure it still makes sense.

    Longer story short:
Once upon a time there was a free license for KIT available and I won because I want it pretty bad. And everyone lived happily ever after. The end.

It’s software like KIT that makes me glad I use a Mac. Are there any comparable software for Windows?
