Flow FTP, Transmit killer?

Well, there’s been a lot of news lately about the un-released FTP app Flow, by Brian Amerige. Flow is an FTP application that has many extras including; full status of each item being uploaded, a simple and easy to use interface, Growl support with auto-url copying, as well as a powerful editor among other features. Although the editing functionality has yet to be proven based on the recent screencasts, I am very keen to see what Flow has in store.

Flow Screenshot

Brian has released two screencasts of Flow in use, the first of which puts Flow up against Transmit for transfer speeds, and the second is more of an in-depth preview of the features in Flow. Both of which are a great look at the app itself. I would like to see how Flow performs in person as I can’t really speak for the app until I’ve had a chance to play with it. But I will say this, if Flow performs anything like it does in the screencasts, I am willing to say it will give Transmit a run for its money.

To see the screencasts as well as sign up for the Flow newsletter to be notified of future releases, head on over and check out Flow.

I already killed Transmit with Cyberduck. http://cyberduck.ch/
    Gotta love the opensource.

This looks *so* good. I can’t wait. Just simple things like the fact the window switches to Transfers when it’s uploading and then switches back to the normal view and refreshes it makes it worth my attention.

    “Flow FTP, Transmit killer?”

Hardly, where are the local & remote screen for starters? Unless it’s going to be freeware beg-ware surely Cyberduck is already king in this field..

This doesn’t look that bad. I’ll check it out when it gets released.

    @ Phil Bridges

The screenshot you see is of the Transfers View. Flow automatically switched between the transfers and remoteview if you have it set to do so in the preferences. Watch the screencast to get a better feel for that..

    @ Everyone else
    Thanks for the feedback!

It looks like it was heavily influenced by David Watanabe and his applications. It’s works very much like Acquisition and Xtorrent

I’ve tried a lot of FTP clients including the free cyberduck and one button ftp, but I really liked Transmit and Yummy FTP the best. I love being able to edit right on the server without downloading, editing and then uploading. Ive seen the screencasts though and flow looks good.

I think Forklift has the fastest FTP/SFTP engine at the moment, When transfering lot of small files it is about 10X transfer than Transmit, that makes difference. The live preview is awesome, it shows the thumbnails of pictures on the server in the listview as they were local files.

Transmit killer? Unless I am missing it from the menu and the wiki support section of Flow… It doesn’t let you import bookmarks from any other FTP programs… that alone is kind of a turn-off.

I really like this app, i like the visual interface but I can’t believe it, when I upload a big file and I stop this upload without finish, when I return to upload the rest of file, doesn’t appears “resume”, only skip or replace. Aghhhh. It’s a big big bug from Flow!!!!! Cyberduck and Transmit works well. Any solution? Thanks!
