[...] App Update has several configurable options (for example, you can define your app directory if you don’t use the default Applications folder), but in the end the value lies in how well it helps you keep your apps up-to-date. On that front - let’s just say I did a whole lot of downloading once the scan was complete. If you have a hard time keeping up with the latest and greatest versions of your giant directory of apps, App Update is a really useful widget. — Adam Pash App Update [via MacApper] [...]

@Keenan, you can call upon the widget, use it, and then close it down. you dont have to leave it running all the time.

@Alec feld, yes all app developers should adopt	Andy Matuschak's excellent sparkle

The problem with widgets like this is that I don't want to have a whole widget taking up space on my dashboard. I'd rather it was an app that I could fire up whenever I wanted to check, then quit when I was done. I don't like having extra widgets on the dash.

This widget is pretty interesting, I'm downloading it now. However, most apps nowadays update themselves with the click of a button.

This should be a standalone app, not a widget. There are many of us that have long since disabled Dashboard, but could benefit from a program with this functionality.

Most of the apps I use have built in updating. Plus, I'm not much of a widget person.
