Review: Dock-It

Dock-It is a multiple dock manager from Gideon Softworks. As one would expect, Dock-It allows you to create multiple docks… and manage them. Unfortunately, Dock-It isn’t really as good as many of the other Dock managing apps out there. Dock-It takes some time to adjust to once leaving the default OS X dock. It does not allow you to drag and drop straight into the dock, instead you must manually choose to add the files through menu options.

Dock-It does not behave like the default OS X dock, and there are many important differences. For one thing there is no magnification and when you move the cursor over a Dock-It dock, it doesn’t have the same sectioning and rules.

No, these aren’t the default colours. At least they got that right.
I also found Dock-It to be quite unstable, often the dock would not hide when I wanted it to and the app seemed to stall at strange times for no apparent reason. At the end of the day, I’m not really sure that there is a market for apps which manage multiple docks. If such an app is to be successful, it will really need to be far more elegant than this. For now, Quicksilver handles many of this apps tasks with much greater ease and power.

Maybe you will fare better than I did. Dock-It is shareware and a license will set you back $10.
