iStopMotion Review: Gumby Anyone?

iStopMotioniStopMotion from Boinx is one of the most fun and creative Mac applications that I have ever used. This is because it is a digital stop motion capturing app that can produce high quality claymation and time lapse videos. Yep that’s right, you can finally make your very own Gumby and Pokey show, right at home on your Mac.

iStopMotion really is an amazing little app that can really do a lot. After setting up a webcam or camcorder via firewire/USB, you can record right into your Mac by pressing a record button above the timeline. The timeline shows your captured shots and strings them together into a final sequence. You can also customize the frame overlay, before you capture each shot. It’s easy to edit your movie before you export, by clicking on any shot and deleting it. Once your happy with your movie, you can export the sequence as a Quicktime movie and drop it into iMovie, FCP or any other video editor.

While working with iStopMotion I found that it was a fun and easy application to learn, with a simple interface, and it really is quite powerful. These are the types of tools you usually only find on a Mac.

Watch some clips of what you can do with iStopMotion.

You can grab a free trial of iStopMotion or purchase it for $39.95 from Boinx Software.
