Switcher’s Entries: $100 Winner Vote Finished

MacApper Switcher's Honorable MentionsThe poll to choose the $100 winner fell today from the front page and we are ready to announce a winner. It was a really tight race the last few days and the winner actually only won by just 4 votes, out of a total of just under 200. I hope the other 2 contestants don’t feel too bad about not winning as a great t-shirt has already been sent their way from Insanely Great Tees.

And now the last and final winner of our Switcher’s Conest 2007 is…

The Indie Mac Developer in 15 slides by Joe Goh. Congrats Joe! And once again a huge thanks to everyone in the Mac community – who both helped us supply prizes, and those who submitted creative entries. We plan on doing this type of thing again, so watch for updates.

Thanks Jens! Your entry was great, and this contest was a *really close* race between the two of us the entire time.

Thanks Miles for organising this awesome contest, and for everyone who voted for me – A Big Thank You goes out to all of you who voted. I’m really glad that you liked my entry and for your kind votes.

When I first submitted the entry, I didn’t really have my eyes set on winning anything really. I just hoped to have my entry posted on the website to show what its like to be a struggling indie Mac developer, and hopefully, get a collective-wake-up-call going through the entire Mac community on the importance of supporting the developers if they wish to see the apps they use grow and mature.

Without the support of the paying users, there will be much less 3rd party software available for the Mac.

Don’t take it for granted that the software that you like will be around forever, or that “someone else” will do the paying while you’re downloading the latest crack or illegal serial number for the app that you’re using. Believe me – EVERY single sale counts.

The software industry is brutal, and us developers, either indie or those working for a big software companies, really need those sales to keep going everyday. Software piracy really does kill innovation. Even a great big app like FreeHand got killed, what more for smaller indie devs like us? If there were a lot less software piracy, there would be alot more great software (and games!) around today.

I dedicate this to all the software users and gamers out there, who stood with the devs and supported their work by paying for the software. Thanks – we won’t be here without you.
