QuickScale: Jenny Craig Your Way to Smaller Images
There are many times in the day where you might find yourself stuck with the task of resizing images. Maybe you’re working on a website, or a blog post. If you need to re-size (or scale) multiple images at a time, that could pose even more of a problem and take up precious time.
Last year, when I was still relatively new to the Mac, I found myself needing a way to scale a handful of images. I had absolutely no idea where to start, or if there was a way to scale images right within OS X. My answer came during MacHeist, when I received the application QuickScale.
QuickScale does exactly what it’s name says it does. It is an app that can quickly scale a range of images, or just one image. All it requires you to do is set either the width, or the height. After setting one parameter, the other one automatically adjusts so that the image keeps its shape.
QuickScale also has a few other functions. There are a range of masks that you can apply to your photos such as Arrow, Star and Balloon. QuickScale can even convert your photos to grayscale. If you ever find yourself with the need to scale your photos, QuickScale does an excellent job and does it all fast and efficiently. I use Apple’s Automator.
Automator is just amazing.
I got a folder action that I throw images to and get not only the scaling but also some other effects that I need by using the other automator action and apps that I have.

Good ol’ Photoshop. People say it takes too long for it to load, but I always have it open, so it doesn’t make much of a difference.
I use Quicksilver to scale photos, and I’d like to race. =] I used automator as a finder action before I used QS.
I have some Actions setup in Photoshop that do something very similar.
I need someone’s help!
I’m looking for an app that will run through a PDF, create images of each page, and scale to a certain size, and save out as a preset size gif/png. I know this should be easy with automator but I suppose I’m daft as each time I get non-useful files.
Any advice would be kindly appreciated.
I used ImageWell for about a year but always found that the resulting quality of the picture it outputs was blurrier than the original. I recently found Image Tool which is free and works well, and can do GIF’s unlike ImageWell.
I haven’t checked Image Tool yet, but I also always liked Photoshop because it got rid of the meta info on the Save for Web command, which really reduced the kb of the image. Would love a tool that does that as well.
I recall an app called iZoom that I used for a while for image scaling. This has a similar interface to that. iZoom, iirc, just had a bunch of preset sizes though which you could shrink your image into. But it was good enough for me.
I like Imagewell also though it used to crash on me every now and then when I dropped an image on it.
