Image Upload Widget: Image Uploading for the Masses
Posted by Conner Downey on 06/9/07 in Widgets
Has there ever been a time when you had a picture on your computer that you need to show someone when you were talking through IM, Twitter, or a forum? For these times, many people browse to ImageShack, find the file on their computer, hit upload, and wait for the image to upload. After they have done that, they have to find the right URL (which is usually the direct one), and paste it wherever it needs to go. As you may have noticed, that is a slow and painful process. Luckily, there is a new cool widget from Model Concept that makes this process much easier.
You can find it here, download it, and start using it right away! There are instructions for use on the download page, including a video which shows how to work the widget. To use the widget, start dragging the image you want, open up Dashboard, drop the image onto the widget, and wait until the image uploads. The URL is automatically copied to the clipboard.
Even though the widget seems simple, it is much more complex than it seems. Because ImageShack URLs are very long, the widget includes a way to “shrink” the URL with TinyURL. The option can be turned off, for your skeptical friends, but is a handy feature. The widget also can play a sound when uploading is finished, so you know when the image is uploaded the URL is active. All these preferences can be changed in the widget options.
I strongly encourage you to try out the widget, as it is free, and is an elegant solution for all your image uploading needs. To read more about the creation, learn the back-story, and download the widget, check out the product page on Model Concept.
