Stattoo: A Tattoo for your Desktop

StattooWhile there are many stat apps and widgets for Dashboard, there are not many for your desktop. Stattoo from Panic does exactly this, as it “tattoos” important stats right on your desktop. Stattoo consists of “capsules” such as a clock, weather, disk usage, song playing (in iTunes), iCal, battery, Mail, date, and RSS or Atom feed. When you first install Stattoo, you select which capsules you want tattooed on your desktop and enter some information depending on which capsules you are using. It’s as simple as that. You can also customize the transparency of both the capsules and icons, the text color, capsule alignment, and the brightness of red, blue, and green, as to optimize visibility against your desktop background.

Stattoo Capsules

While I think Stattoo is an innovative idea, I don’t think it is worth the $12.95 registration fee until more capsules are available. However, knowing Panic, I am sure they will soon develop more capsules.

This has been around a long time and there have been few updates to the capsules. I have always felt this tool was a bit over-priced. It should be more in line with their Desktastic tool, price-wise.

I agree. I got it and also had many problems with it. Like loosing its settings. When it works it is nice, but not worth the 12 bucks.

It’s funny, the concept of Statoo seems really great - but in practice I never found it very useful or satisfying. Panic makes great Mac software but in recent years have really steered clear of making products where Apple could stomp on them… I have a feeling Panic has more or less abandoned the development of Statoo seeing the combination of the Dock and Dashboard as pretty stiff competition.

I defenetly prefer to have this kind info on my Menu Bar. To be honest with you I can’t find my self to use Expose everytime when I would like to check how much the battery time left.
