AntiRSI: Save Some Pain
Posted by Steven Owens on 07/2/07 in Home & Personal, Productivity, Utilities
Repetitive strain injury, or RSI, can be a big problem for anyone who repeats the same tasks day after day. This includes computer users, as the usage of a mouse and keyboard involves many repetitive motions. Numbness and general pain in fingers, hands and wrists are some of the symptoms that we may face.
Along with good posture and ergonomics, proper breaks can limit the risk of RSI. While you’re on your own for good posture and ergonomics, AntiRSI by Onne Gorter helps by prompting you to take both micro pauses (13 second breaks every 4 minutes) and work breaks (8 minute breaks every 50 minutes).
You can either choose to take the break at the prompt, or choose to postpone it. The dock icon shows a timer alerting you of how long you’ve been working since your last break. You can adjust both pause and break times as well as the colors of the dock icon in the preferences panel.

I highly recommend AntiRSI to anyone who uses a computer a lot. While it is freeware, Onne asks that you take a look at his ads, make a donation via PayPal, or send him a thank you email if you like the program. You can download AntiRSI and find links to send Onne a donation here.
