@xavierkiyoko

I, too, do that. However, I can't get a buddy list nor can I IM out.

That is a decent solution though. The SMS program is nice.

what i do is i link my AIM Screenname to my phone number and then they come as text. as people instant message me it will assign them a number and i add that number to their profile in my contact list. and then it looks like i have iChat on my iPhone. also while on calls i can continue to chat. really simple until the iChat program is released. i dont notice the difference.

At least I was able to understand a little more about IM. I didn't realize you would lose IM if a telephone call came through. The way people talk about their WM smartphones standard IM systems, it's like they're perfect in every way. There have to be some compromises made in all applications. One thing for certain I sure wouldn't tolerate a cellphone that was crashing all the time. Nobody needs that. So many cellphone geeks want the iPhone totally open. I don't think that's such a good idea. I believe that Apple should be concerned about application stability. Especially while the iPhone is so new. Just give Apple a little more time work out things. At least wait until Leopard is released. I think Apple really designed the iPhone to run some mobile version of Leopard.

Totally. I really think chat/IM on iPhone is gonna be wicked cool - I am so hoping for some type of bitchx style client. How some of these other companies got away with dishing us poo poo apps on our phones for over a decade is beyond me.
