Camouflage: Easy Desktop Cleaning
Most people have tons of icons on their desktop, but wished they could have a nice and cleaner screen. Usually, the solutions are to either to create folders (and subfolders) or to move icons off the desktop. Camouflage by Briksoftware gives you the best of both worlds – the convenience of having all your icons with the aesthetics of an empty desktop.
Camouflage integrates very well with OS X; it places an icon in the menu bar and binds a hotkey to show/hide your icons. Even with your icons hidden, you can still drag and drop files onto the desktop.
The app also integrates with Finder, providing an option for activating Finder when the desktop is clicked. Support for multiple monitors and desktop managers is also included so you can hide all icons on all of your monitors and/or virtual desktops.
Camouflage is currently at version 1.11, which comes with a better update process: should you change any of the display settings, the icons won’t appear for a short time. In addition, this version automatically updates the desktop after fast user switching, so you’ll rest easy knowing your mum can’t peek at your desktop (for whatever reason).
I highly recommend Camouflage for anyone who values the aesthetics of a clean screen. Camouflage is freeware, but Karsten asks that you make a PayPal donation or send something from his Amazon wishlist.

Me mum?
I’m a little confused, but out of the “box” the A key is the hotkey to turn icons on and off, but when I’m in my browser or a focused window, the a key is useless. Just not a good choice for a hotkey to be default.
