Skype 2.7 for Mac Beta Released

Skype LogoSkype released a new beta version of its uberpopular VOIP app today with a few slick new features to appeal to us Mac users. The developers warn that there may be some bugs or minor wrinkles, but I have been using it all day and it seems just fine.

Best new feature might be the ability to add contacts into groups (see below) which is essential for those of us with a ballooning list. The new beta also has direct support for Address Book allowing you to SMS or call anyone in your list. Here is a complete list of changes.

  • Group contacts
  • Apple Address Book contacts in Skype
  • Create and manage public chats
  • Auto Redial (awesome!)
  • Easy sound-level controls
  • Overhauled file transfer

What about Skypecast creations via the app? Do we still need to go to skypecasts.skype.com? :(

I agree, now they just need to integrate a group video chat much like the way iChat works.
