Facebook Now iPhone Friendly
Now that the iPhone has hit it big with consumers, popular websites are now scrambling to make mobile versions of their websites that work well with the iPhone. One website that recently went “iPhone friendly” is Facebook. If you are an iPhone user, you can access the iPhone version of Facebook here.
Honestly, the creation of this one didn’t make much sense to me considering Steve Jobs had promised to bring the whole wide web onto the iPhone. Why not just access the regular facebook instead of having a mobile version? Maybe it was the reason that loading a normal profile on facebook with a fair bit of stuff took eternity; double-tapping all the time exhausted the Opponens Pollicis (thumb muscles), and sometimes even logged me off!
Those were the reasons that forced me to try this new version out and eventually understand the reason for its origin. Warning: It may harm your traditional facebook experience and is not for the weak-hearted who can’t stand the “update status” on the left & search on the right side. If you like it that way, the iPhone version also works on the computer, but why would you bother when you have a huge display?
The most exciting feature that I found was the quick loading time. Mostly because it didn’t load all the apps on a profile at the same time, but broke them down so you may view the ones you want. Phew, no more waiting any longer! Moreover, another positive I saw was the organized way you can browse Facebook. You get a well organized bar right below a Facebook heading that can transfer you from Home to Profile to Friends and Inbox, including the subsections on all of them.
This means that, with a single tap of a finger, you can browse through everything – no more double-tapping either! I previously hated accidental hits on other links, which resulted in going on a never-ending quest for apps. Additionally, a status button on the left side and a search button on the right side that I mentioned earlier provides quick and easy ways to bounce around. The only negative was the incapability to join groups, but how many times do you join one?
“iPhone Facebook” comes as another great addition to the many iPhone applications that are already available. Things are just getting better for the iPhone. What do you think: Does the Sun or iPhone have more things revolving around it?
Remember: If you have had enough iPhone, through the miracle of Yahoo Pipes, MacApper has an iPhone Free RSS feed.

Gah! Don’t misuse plethora!
From Dictionary.app
plethora |ˈpleÃŽ¸Ã‰â„¢rÉ™|
noun ( a plethora of)
an excess of (something) : a plethora of committees and subcommittees.
¢ Medicine an excess of a bodily fluid, particularly blood.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) and most other dictionaries, this word refers (and has always referred) to an overabundance, an overfullness, or an excess. The phrase a plethora of is essentially a highfalutin equivalent of too many e.g.: “Our electoral politics now is beset with a plethora of [read too many ] players and a confusing clutter of messages. ( Brookings Review; Jan. 1, 2002.) But sometimes, when not preceded by the indefinite article, the word is genuinely usefule.g.: “Critics say the plethora of scrip circulating in Argentina risks running out of control. ( Wall Street Journal; Dec. 26, 2001.)
Unfortunately, through misunderstanding of the word’s true sense, many writers use it as if it were equivalent to plenty or many. This meaning is unrecorded in the OED and in most other dictionaries. And it represents an unfortunate degeneration of sensee.g.:
“Buffalo may seem like a boring city, but we've managed to produce a plethora [read plenty ] of famous people, the Goo Goo Dolls, Ani Difranco, David Boreanaz and now, Chad Murray. ( Buffalo News; Jan. 8, 2002.)
“The old policies did not anticipate a plethora [read series or group or lot ] of suicide bombers. ( Orlando Sentinel; Jan. 10, 2002.) (One suicide bomber is too manyso plethora doesn’t work.)
Phrases such as a whole plethora of are likewise ill-considerede.g.: “Then, once you get to the airport ticket counter, there’s a whole plethora [read a whole range or a wide variety ] of biometric identifiers you could use to tie the background checks you've done to the individuals who present themselves at the ticket counter. ( Boston Globe; Jan. 6, 2002.)
seriously. I really don’t see what the fuss is about for iphones. I live in Malaysia and the iphones my friend brought back from the USA are pretty much oversized PDAs since they don’t work on our SIM cards
I don’t understand how you are calling it oversized? I have owned/seen several PDA’s; iPhone is fairly small compared to them. I, personally, expected the iPhone to be bigger but it surprised me to see the actual size of it. My friends were quite astonished also. Plus, I don’t think there is a need of SIM cards when you have an iPhone. Just get an international plan and add the contacts without the SIM card. My friend in India has done just that.
On one hand, I am really starting to get sick of all these sites creating iPhone versions. I’m in Canada, and we don’t have iPhones. I’ve NEVER seen one, not even a glance of one.
On the other hand… When (or if!) iPhones come in Canada, all these sites will already have iPhone-Friendlier versions.
For now, I have to try them out with iPhoney.
The iphone facebook site doesnt work on this computer, the only reason i want to use it is because the other facebook is blocked at my office =[.
