Pipette: Hex Colors for All!
Pipette is a very simple program that will come in very handy to anyone who does any type of web design. It is a stand-along color eye dropper. Why it comes in handy to web developers is that it converts what ever color you hover over into hex for use in HTML.
Pipette is probably on of the easiest applications to use. You just click and hold down on the eye dropper and drag it to the color you want in hex. A little text-box automatically highlights the hex for easy copying. If you do any type of work where you work with hex colors, Pipette will definitely come in handy to you. Pipette is available for free from Charcoal Design.

Its not really that useful since a more powerful eye-dropper tool is built into OS X. Its called ‘DigitalColor Meter’ (in the utilities folder) and can show colors as hex values as well as most other ways. You can also change the size of the sample aperture.
Huh, I never even knew that program existed, Sam. Thanks for the tip.
I LOVE Hex Color Picker(being a fairly experienced web developer), it makes my life so much easier. It integrates really tightly into Apple’s color manager, and I can select a color from the color wheel part of the color manager, and then copy the hex code from hex color picker.
Just downloaded it, great app.
I use DigitalColor Meter all the time (it’s especially useful because I’m red-green color blind) but I like that Pipette makes it a little easier to lock in on a single color and copy the hex code to the clipboard. Yeah, I know you can copy the hex code with DigitalColor Meter using Cmd-Shift-C but it copies it with quotes around the color…
Thanks!
It’s great, but it needs a color wheel icon beside the pipette icon. It’s simple, but ultimately a bit too limiting. It needs a color wheel for the minimal web site makers out there. I’d pay for that addition.
