Magic Number Machine: The Only Calculator You’ll Ever Need

Magic Numbers Machine IconHave you ever tried to use Calculator.app in place of your advanced calculator? If so, you may have noticed it lacks some advanced features and may not provide as precise an answer as needed. Magic Number Machine from Matt Gallagher is a great alternative.

Magic Number Machine provides many of the features missing from Calculator.app such as 25 accurate digits of precision, support for complex numbers, many different number modes, function history, statistics functions, linear regressions, matricies, built in constants, and most importantly, a visual representation of the expression you are entering. If Calculator.app were a TI-83/84 calculator, Magic Number Machine would be more along the lines of a TI-89.

Along with OS X’s built-in Grapher utility, Magic Number Machine could replace an advanced scientific calculator such as the TI-89. If you regularly use such a calculator (or even if you don’t), I highly recommend this useful app. Magic Number Machine is freeware and available from Matt Gallagher.

Typeset is so close to being the prefect solution, it may eventually evolve into such. Particularly lacking from Typeset’s features are three things. Typeset’s font properties lacks the “Description” category that is available in Font Book. This isn’t a serious offense but will drive me to have to go back to Font Book when I want to see the font creators comments about a given font. The lack of font validation in Typeset again could drive some more hardcore users back to Font Book. Finally, and simple enough to fix, Typeset has no “Reveal Font in Finder” option, something I find myself using fairly often. http://friv-games.de.tl/

@kelownagurl A couple of users (early Twitter adopters) encountered such an error. Basically the API call hangs instead of returning data.
