PictureSync: Share Your Photos with the World!

PictureSync IconPhotography is an avid hobby of mine, and I am sure it is a hobby of many of you readers. When I take a picture that I feel is worth showing to other people, I usually upload it to Flickr. I mostly use Flickr for more creative shots, like landscapes and sunsets, vs. events like birthdays and family get-togethers.

When I want to share the latter, I use Facebook. I am not a real avid user of Facebook, using it mostly for sharing pictures with family whos head would begin to spin if I tried to explain to them the concepts of using Flickr. The only problem I find with using two different services, is when I want to upload the same photo to both.

Emu!This isn’t really that big of a deal, but having to first login to Flickr, upload the photos, then have to login into Facebook and do the same, becomes a little irksome. On top of that, I use Photobucket to share little photos I’ve found on the internet quickly with friends. I like Photobucket because it automatically generates the URLs for Email and IM, HTML Code, Direct Link and IMG code. Getting a few photos onto all three of these services can become a little time consuming, that is until I was introduced to PictureSync.

PictureSync is an application that allows you to upload photos to multiple services. At the moment it supports 17 services such as Facebook, Flickr, Photobucket (funny how that worked out eh?) and Shutterfly. For a full list of services, check out PictureSync’s website.

PictureSync Window

You can add pictures from iPhoto, Lightroom, Aperture, the Finder and more. Once inside of PictureSync, you can add descriptions, keywords, ratings and more. Being able to upload pictures to multiple services to share with the world is something that has come in handy for me, and I am sure it will for you too.

PictureSync Uploading

For $15 you can use all of PictureSync’s features unrestricted. There is also a free version available. Purchase PictureSync here.

What are your favorite photo services? Would an application like PictureSync be useful to you? Let us know.

Glad you like PictureSync! Couple of things you might not have discovered…

—After uploading if you click the globe icon in the drawer you can copy the URLs for images, without for example opening the Photobucket site (albeit not all codes are given, happy to add more though).
—You could use keywords and rules to specify which images go to which of your accounts automatically if they’re all enabled (with the ’skip upload’ action and criterion for the account name(s) and corresponding keyword).

For those of you who just use Facebook and Flickr, there’s a Facebook app (which my company developed, cough, cough) called ZuPort Flickr, which automatically synchronizes your Flickr photos with your Facebook account. Get it here: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=2893465429&b

I wasn’t aware the Flickr was tremendously difficult to use. If I wanted non-tech-savvy folks to see my pix, I’d just create a group and point people at the flash slideshow. But that’s me. :)

Yeah thats interesting… For me I find facebook far more cumbersome to use than flickr especially for say umm photos… especially since if all you family isn’t on facebook they won’t be able to see the pics, flickr however is public, so a link to tthe family member ad they are off and looking at the photos.

However the uploader app is cool, which I guess is the point.

@Bruce: Flickr is easy to navigate, but some of my family are very un-tech-savvy. They have finally mastered Facebook, and I think that if I tried to introduce them to Flickr, they might be confused. Maybe in the future I will begin to ween them. Baby steps :)

I use my ImageShack widget. It’s just drag-and-drop-and-paste, and it’s a handy alternative to the PhotoBucket website.

(I don’t mean the Image Upload widget; the two upload images, but only the official ImageShack one works with an account and provides URL formats.)

Darn! Just signed on with Picasa because a List to which I subscribe recommended it for Macintosh users.

    With it supported Picasa.
