Portable Vienna: Take Your RSS Feeds Anywhere
Chances are, you’ve heard of Vienna, the popular open source RSS reader for the Mac. Although it offers everything in a sleek and simple user interface, it’s never been portable – all your news feeds are essentially trapped on one Mac.
Enter, Portable Vienna from FreeSMUG. This nifty little app combines the goodness of Vienna into a portable application that can be stored on a USB flash disk. It only requires 10MB of space, so any old flash disk will do. Simply plug it into any Mac and you have all your feeds. Boom!
Portable Vienna features a built-in browser based on Safari, global search, smart folders, styles, blogging integration and much more. If you happen to be a software developer, why not join in the fun? You can obtain the source code for both programs; consider adding a feature or two to the app and if you do, be sure to let us know.

Portable Vienna is just like its bigger brother Vienna. Both pieces of software are open source; download Portable Vienna and check it out.

Ooh, that’s extremely neat. I’ve been forced to use Google Reader to track my feeds when I’m not at my Mac, and it’s a little annoying trying to keep it synced with Vienna, which I already use as my main reader.
I definitely have to give this one a shot.
Until someone can deliver a good native crossplatform solution I still find Bloglines a great solution. I’m no fan of web based apps over native but this one makes sense since I’m going to be in the browser anyways.

Vienna is fine, but it keeps hanging on my Mac mIni – this is very irritating, as I constantly have to spend time waiting for Vienna to perform.
RSSOwl ( http://www.rssowl.org/download ) is also free and open source and works better, in my opinion.
And then there’s the daddy of all aggregators, Netnewswire (freeeware))

Netnewswire is the one that works best and that I use every day.
