Meander: Route-mapping Made Easy
If you’re one who uses Google Maps a lot, you know how tedious it can be to mark out a route. Sometimes Google’s built in directions don’t exactly follow the route you want, and having to take a screenshot of the map, and import it into a graphics application can be a bit time-consuming. If you find yourself in this position a lot, I suggest you try Meander.
Meander is a simple application that by positioning it’s window over a map, allows you to plot out a route. Each time you click, a map point is anchored, and you can stretch out another segment of line. If you know the scale of the are plotting a route on, you can use Meander to find distances as well. Once you have finished your map, clicking the “Snapshot” button allows you to save a snapshot of the current map (complete with your plotted route), print it, or export it.

Most things about Meander are customizable, such as the overlay color, line type and line thickness. If I had anything bad to say about Meander it would be the price. So far, I have only used Meander to draw up quick routes on Google Maps and maps that I have scanned. At $19.99 USD, it is much cheaper just to draw the lines quickly in a graphics app. Though of course this method is not as convenient. If you find yourself using and some of it’s more advanced functionality often, you can pick it up here.

Check the title. It’s Meander, not Meader.
So it uses the overlay technique… I guess it has trouble with routes that require scrolling in google maps? Most that don’t are easy to just remember, and those that do are rarely worthwhile when zoomed out far enough to avoid the scrolling…
The website doesn’t seem to mention being able to combine maps if you make them in sections, so I guess this is limited to just what you can cram on one screen?
You can set your route in Google Maps. Just grab the route line and move it or add points manually by typing in intermediate stops. Seems much easier to me… especially for the cost.
Insomnic I agree, but sometimes google maps gets real confusing if you just print the text directions and not every step of the map. Read what it says to do AND look at the direction of the map in this link, and you tell me that you wouldn’t get real mad when you drive 50 miles out of the way looking for the exit that’s not there.
Check this. It’s not my full route, but the part where google maps gets confused.
Wow, I am having a really off week. Thanks Rebby, fixed.
@Pete: That’s another place where Meander falls short. Unless you can fit your route into one screen, Meander sort of loses it’s usefulness.
