Tidy Up 1.3: Keep Your Mac Tidy
System utilities may not be the most exciting part of your downloading regimen, but no one can doubt their importance. Tidy Up by Hyperbolic Software, ensures that your system is not clogged up by dupes and is a bonafied (or so it claims) “duplicate finder” and “disk tidiness” utility.
The latest version (Tidy Up! 1.3.0) has just been released and the most significant addition is its support for Leopard. Unfortunately, the new cosmetic advancements were lost on my installation of Tiger (hey not all of us are fast).
Tidy Up searches for duplicate files and packages; by the owner application, content, type, creator, extension, date modified, date created, name, label, visibility and more. If you have some spare time in hand (don’t we all) then you can also run the application for searching the content of the iTunes, iPod, Mail and iPhoto databases.
On running the application for the first time, I liked the simple interface, which shows the locations and lists the various criteria. I looked for dupes on my hard disk and in around 20 secs, the application found around 20,000 dupes. Now before you start doubting my sanity let me just say they were pre-loaded files and part of Tiger.
This is just one of the ways you can search for duplicates. I used it for finding dupes in iTunes, iPhoto, etc, and must say the application has certainly delivered. However the question is, will I shell out 30 bucks for a program like this? Probably not, but that is more to do with me being a neat freak as I hate cluttering my machine. However, the application can easily carve a niche for itself.

interesting app…but in my opinion the price is a bit high…were it around 15bucks I’d definitely purchase it.
I agree, its a bit overpriced. Personally, I’d feel a lot better about my Mac being clean and tidy if I did the organizing, and tidying myself manually. I did this during the Tiger -> Leopard transition, and its been quite successful for me.
