BitClamp 1.1 Released - Now Twice as Strong

BitClampYou might remember my software BitClamp, that has been mentioned here a couple of times, launched back on the first of November. Well this week I released the first major update to the encryption tool in the form of version 1.1.

I won’t make a secret of the fact that the launch could have gone a lot better and the response wasn’t 100% positive. But, instead of being totally negative, it was clear what people wanted: stronger encryption, as well as a couple of other features such as a confirmation field for when you enter your password.

So for this release I am proud to announce the fact that we have upgraded all of the algorithms. We now offer: 256 Bit AES, 256 Bit Serpent and 448 Bit Blowfish. All are backwards compatible and operate at the same blazing speed that you found with the older, weaker algorithms. Along with the algorithms there is now the option to confirm your password once you have typed it once, avoiding encrypting a file with a password that you won’t remember. This is along with numerous bug fixes and optimizations.

Bitclamped!

Thats not all the good news as I can finally offer you readers a discount in the form of a coupon code. Check-out with the coupon code MACAPPER to save 15% on your order of BitClamp licenses.

The update is available now through BitClamp’s auto-update or from main site.

Hmmmm… I can give you money for this or I can use encrypted disk images (default in OS X), PGP (serious commercial software), or GNU-PG (free OS software with hundreds of people checking the code is secure).

Good luck with that 15% discount.

Sure you could use encrypted disk images…. that you can’t encrypt up to 448 bit and won’t open on windows. PGP is ridiculously expensive (correct me if im wrong but I just saw prices at a minimum of around £50 ($100))
GNUPG requires that your a bit of a wiz and can build the software yourself which is over and above what a casual user is going to want to do.
BitClamp is meant to be quick, easy and flexible drop in a couple of files hit encrypt and your done.
