Anxiety: A Sleek and Free To-Do List Manager
Recently, designer and developer Tom Stoelwinder released Anxiety. Anxiety is a very simple but highly effective To-do list application that allows you to easily create lists and to-dos inside those lists. Its main characteristics are its strong integration with OS X and a very clean interface, but there are other features that make it a truly perfect To-do list manager.
The purpose of Anxiety is very simple; to help you create to-do lists. If you want to enter more details about a to-do, you just have to double-click on it and it will be opened by Mail or iCal so you can add more details. You can switch between your lists by choosing the one you want at the top of the window. Anxiety is very well integrated with OS X; you can synchronize your to-do lists with iCal and Mail so you can easily transfer them to other devices such as an iPhone or an iPod. By using Calendar Store, a calendar database integrated into Leopard, Anxiety permanently syncs your to-dos with iCal and Mail. You can modify, add, or delete a task in Anxiety, Mail or iCal and the modification will be present in all three applications.
Another great point of Anxiety is its user interface. The look is the same as a HUD panel so it is completely integrated into the system. It’s very minimalist and clean, but this simplicity makes this app beautiful and enjoyable to use.

The interface has another great quality; its simplicity. Moreover, there are many ways to access this app; you can have it in your menubar or in your dock. You can also choose to have it permanently on screen which is great if you always want to look at your to-dos. You can control much of the app’s appearance in the preferences; the maximum number of list rows, the elements you want in the footer, etc.
One of the best features of Anxiety is its price; it is completely free. You can download it at the developers website.

Sounds really cool. Just wish it would work on Tiger!
Too bad you can’t add due dates or priority
@ Van Lam – Yes, I appreciate this is a shortcoming, I just wanted to get an initial release out before adding such things (as I wasn’t really sure how to deal with them from a UI perspective, while keeping true to the simplicity of the app). Sorting by priority and letting you set priority are at the top of my list right now, along with adding a global hotkey.
All this program needs is a “stay on desktop” feature so if I use exposé to show the desktop it is still there because I don’t like that it is either in front of every window or hidden at all. It would be nice as a dashboard widget also.
I echo mckeephoto. A Tiger version would be sweet!
It downloaded 2 .dmg files. Which do I install?
(anxiety.dmg or anxiety2.dmg)?
Thanks in advance for any help with this!
@Tom Stoelwinder: could you please let us know if a Tiger version it is planned or not? I’m pretty sure there are lots and lots of users who didn’t upgrade to Leopard and who would love to use this great application. Are we suddenly left behind?
Thank you very much for your effort and generosity!
@marioboyer:
Anxiety.dmg is the name of the DMG that is inside the .zip file you downloaded. Maybe you accidently hit download twice and OS X renamed it to Anxiety2.dmg… Try installing Anxiety.dmg
no answer from Tom
… I guess we, the Tiger users, ARE left behind…
I’ve just downloaded anxiety and it seems like you can only start the app from the dmg file (=when I restart the app from the dock the disk image pops up). When I try moving it to the applications folder I get an error message. What am i doing wrong?
