Macintosh GUI: A Customization Goodie of the Day

MacintoshGUI As much as we all enjoy the user interface of Mac OS X, sometimes we need a change. The Mac community has been responsive to this need of many people. As a result we’ve see many app like CandyBar and Shapeshifter. But where do we go to find these wonderful enhancements to our favorite Graphic User Interface?

MacintoshGUI is a site that showcases one Mac goodie everyday, either an icon, desktop, theme or any other GUI enhancers you would like to submit which you can use to customize your Mac. With ratings, user submissions, and a linear archive system, it’s really easy to share your favourite Mac-design related GUI goodies.

A look at Macintosh GUI

As the co-creator of the site, I created it because I felt there wasn’t a site which you could dedicate a whole day to your Macmod fantasies. There are some very skilled designers creating icons, screensavers and mods for the Mac, and I wanted to give them a chance to shine.

The customizations list

Unlike most design related sites and blogs in general, it has a very minimal and elegant design. Since it showcases one goodie per day, the content isn’t overwhelming. Without unnesessary settings, and bad content, I’m hoping some of you guys find it useful.

Too bad the site doesn’t look like your screenshots in Firefox. When I click on the Archive page, the list of items isn’t in a scrollable frame as shown in the screenshot. The text just shows up as normal text on the page and runs right off the bottom of the sticky note and underneath the navigation buttons.

I hope to see a utility on the site soon to make my Powerbook Menu bar translucent. That is a difficult thing to search for on the net. Many matches either describe the feature or describe how some people do not have it.

Unfortunately, it looks even worse in Vienna’s browser (which I believe uses WebKit 2, so anybody who hasn’t gone up to Safari 3 is going to have trouble), either.

Same in Camino (yes I know that is Firefox too, kinda). Images not loading and the archive is not scrollable.

Works okay in Safari 3

@2stuipd2knowIt - The goodies are not applications, the goodie of the day is an enhancement to the GUI.

ah, ok, that wasn’t evident, at least to me.

So maybe what’s needed is a what to do with the enhancement after download. I downloaded the square compass. I think it’s a bunch of icons, but then don’t know what to do with them. Read Me just said who made them.

I’ve made this point on the Fluid posting but it would be great to see some icons that I could use with Facebook, Flickr, Zoho webapp creations.
