Plenty of good apps, one or two I can use, some I know from Linux.
Unfortunately I’m riding in the caboose on an uphill slope and somebody’s unhitched the coupling – poor old 10.3.9 Panther is the poor alley-cat cousin to the newer flavours. Such is the way of life. I feel like the overweight, middle-aged mustachioed ’somebody’s uncle’ at the beach or the disco
(Maybe I am?)

Jing is lowsy, as Steve pointed out. Filezilla is a winner – Super easy to use and lightning quick to upload and download your files. I’ve also had great luck with VLC for many vids over the past few months.

I recomend You using filezilla. It is really great FTP software.
I am using it since 2009 and working really good.

Hey, for software to be Mac software shouldn’t it actually be written specifically for Macs?

And as the previous Anonymous said: Why the hell would I bother with a Mac for these when I can get just about all of these on any particular Linux distribution on a PC?

Is there any reason why I’d really want a Mac? I can get more power from a PC and its operating systems, most especially Linux.

Um. Except I could get almost all of this from my Linux distribution, WITHOUT wasting $2000 on a mediocre PC with an Apple logo on it.

Was your goal to convince people to switch to Macs with this list? If so you failed dismally.

Delio on February 29th, 2008 2:25 pm Audacity is a joke. Probably the worst audio software I’ve ever used. REAPER for full, pro-tools-like multi-track editing is fantastic. Totally professional quality. While not actually free, the trial version is entirely uncrippled, and after the trial period, the software remains fully functional with a brief nag window on startup. Indispensable for the amateur studio wannabe!
