Drawit 3.2 Released: Fresh New Interface

DrawitA new version of DrawIt, an easy-to-use, powerful image editing and drawing application, was recently released. This new version brings some new features to the table but the main change is the interface which has now been completely overhauled. At its heart DrawIt is an image editing and drawing application that features vector and bitmap editing tools and a non-destructive editing mode.

As mentioned, the interface has been totally redesigned with some help by Laurent Baumann and sometimes reminds me of the look of Finder. Take a look below.

Drawit’s new interface

There is a new attributes panel that has been simplified and can now be collapsed. Overall the entire interface has also been simplified – styles and filters are merged and are now both known as Effects. So now all the styles such as stroke, shadow and opacity, and filters like blur are now in the same category. You can also define default effects for your layers. Even more useful is that you can now create Favorite effects so that you don’t have to create that effect you liked over and over. Finally, this version also introduces a plug-in system that allows you to create your own effects.

The icon also changed for people who care about stuff like that – it was a box of crayons and is now a drop of paint. It is, as you would expect, available in a 512×512 format for Leopard.

DrawIt costs $49 and a demo version is available for download at DrawIt’s website (but be warned as it annoyingly watermarks images).

Seems like an integrated Photoshop replacement. I like the fact that everything is in a window similar to Apple’s iLife. The price is awesome and the feature list is impressive. I would love to own this and use this side by side with my current application. Hey, this may be an inexpensive replacement!
