Note: I am a real bargain hunter as you will see here, but your price shouldn’t be too far off mine if you search around. Feel free to gloss over this section!
The motherboard was bought from a seller on eBay that lived in my city so I picked it up for $140 with no shipping cost. Cost online new today is around $180. Check prices.
The processor was bought from Frys as part of a Processor + Motherboard package. The combo cost $274 plus tax. This therefore cost $298. I then sold the motherboard on Craigslist for $60. So the net cost of the processor was $238 for me. I see them selling online for around $280 or even less. Check prices.
RAM was bought from another Craigslister who seemed a bit desperate for money. I bought a 2GB Kingston kit from him for $30. Also bought from him two 1GB sticks (matching) for $12 each. All of it was DDR2 @ 667 Mhz. Total for 4GB was $54. I’ll admit this was a great deal but I see 4GB of Kingston Value RAM going for around $100, so shop around. 2GB will work fine too. Check prices.
Video card was bought from some gaming fanboy on craigslist that must have needed to get the latest video card. I bought a matching pair from him for $135. Cost for one was therefore $62.50. Buying one of the shelf will set you back around $160. Check prices.
Hard drive was purchased new from Frys for just $64.99 plus tax, or $71. Online I see them for around $90. Check prices.
DVD Drive is some relic from an old computer. 8x CD Burner. DVD Reader. I’ll be generous and value it at $5. Obviously you can buy a better drive and it should work great in OS X. A decent new one will set you back around $40. Check prices.
Case was purchased from the same guy I bought the RAM from. It was brand new in the box with a 350 watt power supply and a complete set of nice shielded cables. Got it for $30. They go for around $85 new. Check prices.
Important: With the processor make sure you get the one that has G0 stepping (not B3 stepping). The G0 version runs cooler thus can be overclocked more with a stock cooler more so than its B3 counterpart.

The next image is of the open case. Mmm new! The nice pin headers from Asus are already on the panel wires. These are nice because they slip right onto the board with no fuss.

The next picture is the I/O panel of the motherboard. Lots of stuff including eSATA, plenty of USB ports, and firewire. Notice the WiFi antenna jack!

Next image shows most of the SATA connectors. Plug the hard drive into the RED one.

here is all of the components mounted in the case. Not much to it.

Another view with everything in the case.

And the finished tower from the front.

Next we will tweak the BIOS and install Leopard…
