Much better than using a sequencer IMO. Transcribing can be tough but it's a great exercise. I learned to shred by buying tab books like yngwie malmsteen, vinnie moore, etc. Sometimes you want an expert to show you the best way to play riffs than rather non-ideal approaches if you tab it yourself.
