Galder Giveaway: 5 Copies up for Grabs!

GalderAbout a week ago, we reviewed the new gem-matching, strategizing game, Galder. Turns out, the guys from Fastforward Software have been kind enough to part with five licenses for our readers! That’s right, you could have a license to the newest hit game before all your friends, and be the envy of all. Or at least p0wn the highest score.

But, as with all of our contests there is a catch. It’s not too hard, though, just download a trial of Galder; don’t worry, you will be hooked the moment you try it. It really is good stuff. Second, answer one or all of these questions…

  • What do you like/hate about Galder?
  • What is your high score?

Leave us a comment with your answer before February 14, 2007, at Midnight (EST); winners will be announced shortly afterward. Good luck gamers!

If you’re late to this party, you can always pick up a copy from Fastforward Software yourself for US$19.99, and see what all the fuss was about.

I reeeeally like this this game. The graphics are great and it’s a one-up over other gem style games. One problem is there is no way to easily hook up for a multiplayer match, like a lobby or something. You need to go IP to IP which is a bit of a pain for my mom. Fix that and you have a real winnner here.

Great game, just tried it. I would say it’s pretty darn polished but still kind of tough to get very far. I also didn’t like how it ran fullscreen on my 1920×1280 display. Having said that, I am hooked, and would love to play past the trial 60 minutes.

    High score was just 8,890.

This is a decent game, good time waster! But the graphics could be a little better!
And my top score is a lowly 5,545 (Just need to change the 4 to a 5 hehe)

I’ve always been a big fan of casual puzzle games such as Luxor or Bejewled, but Galder really hits the top of my list. An addictive puzzle game that I’ve enjoyed so far, but can’t go any further with because of the time limit.

    My high score is 17,511.

Cool game… requires lots of planning.

    What I like:
    1)MUSIC!!! It’s like ambient/chill, which I love.
2)I liked the idea and thought behind the game… it requires lots of planning and spinning and drops. =)

    What I don’t like:
That I can only drop things… it would be nice to be able to lift things too, but then I guess that defeats the purpose of the puzzle of it all. If you could lift things, then people could line up all the gems every time and just fulfill the puzzle.

I’m already addicted to this game! The music sets a great atmosphere without getting on your nerves, and I like the clinking of the gems. I love that you can move the rings around so you always have a chance at winning, no matter how the gems are placed, and it also adds to the strategy.

In the 60 minutes of the demo I didn’t manage to clear the board, but my high score is 51,237 :D

Reading this thread warms my heart – happy to see so many people enjoying Galder! :) I’d like to extend a couple of tips that might help you to get even higher scores:

    * Try saving one of the colors for later - if you can clear all colors except, say, green, then removing all 36 green gems in one go will give you a huge boost!
    * One aspect of scoring that isn’t all that obvious is that spreading the gems will also factor into your result - before making the cut, you should make sure that you can’t occupy more rings and sectors.
    * Stretches of three or more stones in a row can be used to bridge gaps between stones.
    * Try to remove all stones from one or two columns by “drilling down” - that will give you more room to maneuver with the column move.

Jason: I’m working on creating a lobby system for network play so your mother will have less of a hassle setting up! :)

    Thanks, and keep battling! :)

    @Ivan
I went through the tutorial and I think it was explained good enough to understand that spreading out the gems is necessary to get a high score. I don’t think there’s a need to make it any more obvious… if people choose not to go through the tutorial, that’s their fault. :P

That’s how I got my high score up above. That score was on my first try (after going through the tutorial).

Thanks for the tips! Actually the only tip I wasn’t already using was the first one, but it made a huge difference - my high score is now 214,369! :D
