Flow v1.0 to be Released Friday

Flow IconA little over a year ago, a new FTP application called Flow began to surface around the web. This application, developed by Brian Amerige, has been in beta and under NDA since then. On March 30th, people who were a part of the beta testing team were sent an email announcing that Flow version 1.0 would be released this Friday, April 4th.

For those of you who have been a part of the beta testing team such a myself, you know that Flow has matured into quite a nice FTP client. With features such as in-application, color-coded document editing (I’m sure there is a more technical name for this feature), and a very clean and intuitive interface, I am considering switching my current FTP client (YummyFTP) for Flow. What do you think? Will Flow be enough to switch you?

Flow will be released this Friday, and be Leopard-only. Look for a full MacApper review soon.

    Boy, I love me some YummyFTP, but you seem to make a strong case for Flow. I’ll have to check it out. If YummyFTP had spring-loaded folders, it would be genius and perhaps I wouldn’t be so conflicted.

    I’m a huge Transmit FTP fan. Live and die by it daily. It would take a lot to make a move, but I’m never against something better :)

    I’ll stick with Transmit. It has everything I need and Panic has great support.

    Flow is still not the app i really like. Still no possibility to use an external editor the easy way. Still no copying from server adress to http adress. argh

    @Zettt

    Actually both of those features are in Flow, and have been for quite some time.

    Right click a file, under “Edit Externally,” choose the app you’d like to edit in. Hit save within the app to have it automatically uploaded.

    Likewise, provide the base URL information for a given bookmark and check the “Automatically copy URL to clipboard after uploading” checkbox to do exactly that.

    ;-)

    It doesn’t work! Always i have to choose my external editor again and again.
    Copy url doesn’t work, too.
    Don’t you think i have tested before posting?

    @Zett

    It does work. Thousands of beta users have it working. I have it working. ;-)

    Send an e-mail to support at extendmac.com and I can help you get through whatever hoop you’re getting caught on, I’d be glad to!

    Sorry Brian, i was using an old version of Flow. I decided to use it not any more before because i didn’t saw these features in the programm.
    Do i have to set a new bookmark for every new site?
    I have a webserver where i have a directory called “websites” within there i have “www.zettt.de” “tutorials.zettt.de” and so on…

    Who cares? This is just FTP we’re talking about here. Yummy FTP works fine for me. So does the (free and open source) Cyber Duck. I really, REALLY wish Mac devs would stop with trying to hype up their applications. Inevitably it fails. Remember Disco? Who still uses that?

    Release your product and let it stand or fall on its own strengths, not on your ability to whip the Mac “community” into a frenzy way before anyone even SEES your application.

    @ Zettt

    I’m sure the folks at MacApper would prefer to keep the comments on topic and away from support, so shoot an e-mail to support at extendmac.com, and I’d be more than glad to help you out!

    -Brian.
