At Last! Read/Write to NTFS Partitions with Paragon NTFS
Owing to a long history of DV filmmaking on the Windows platform, I have several terabytes of data spread across a multitude of NTFS-formatted drives that I sometimes need to access from my Mac. As long as all I need to do is view or copy files from those drives, OS X has me covered. However, if I should want to edit or move data to that drive, then the Mac’s read-only ability for NTFS partitions is only the beginning of my problems.
This is a fundamental issue that many switchers face, and unfortunately the solutions are few. If you have the time and extra drive space, you could copy off all your data from your NTFS drive, then reformat the drive to FAT32 (which OS X can read and write to) and copy all your data back. You could install Parallels or VMWare Fusion, then mount the drive and copy the files through your virtual Windows install. Or you could try installing MacFUSE with ntfs-3g and gain the ability to read and write NTFS drives…at severely reduced transfer speeds. All I (and many other switchers) want is a simple and discreet way to access an NTFS partition from within OS X.
Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X seamlessly bridges the gap between the Mac and Windows platforms, providing native NTFS support for OS X. Installation is quick and easy: simply launch the Paragon NTFS installer package from within the dmg, complete the installation and restart. Integration is completely seamless for the user; NTFS partitions are available in the Finder and Save As dialogs, making those drives accessible for any OS X application or service. In addition, Paragon NTFS allows you to verify and repair NTFS volumes and format NTFS volumes from the Terminal.
At $40, my only gripe with Paragon NTFS is that its a bit more pricey than the “lunch money†cost of many OS X apps. That having been said, this little gem does exactly what it says and does it well. I’m more than happy to part with the cash to finally have an effective an unobtrusive solution to such a long-standing problem.
For those of us who must straddle the fence between the worlds of Mac and Windows, there are always going to be difficulties and slight headaches along the way. Fortunately, one of the most frustrating and fundamental of those problems is now also one of the easiest to overcome. Paragon NTFS is a universal binary running on OS X 10.4.6 and higher (including Leopard). Paragon NTFS for Max OS X is available from the Paragon Software Group for $39.95 USD and a ten day fully-functional trial version is available.

Great write up, I was hesitant to try it since I didn’t want to drop the $40 bucks, but I’m going to give the demo a try now.
hmmm….why pay money for this when you have the ntfs3g project and macfuse? this combination works flawlessly.
Make it $15 and I think their sales would rise precipitously.
Paragon is so more faster. Plus, the free thing is prolonging the OSX-shutdown process with several minutes!
