Please excuse the double post, as my comment was striped from copied text...

rEFIt is not much more then a GUI to more boot loaders. rEFIt chain loads GRUB, which is in turn a combination of graphics and text. rEFIt chain loads ˜what ever Windows uses'. So for a product/enthusiasts to make claims like "...Most of you are probably familiar with the standard inflexible text boot interfaces..." is false advertising.

So again, all rEFIt does, is loads the target operating system's boot loader. It doesn't boot that operating system on its own what so ever.

I agree that its useful, sure is somewhat buggy though:

I find it absolutely repulsive looking. However it is so customizable you can make it look really nice. Try it out, you can replace some of the images or customize certain files to make it nice.

Last time I tried to install Linux on my Mac (With Boot Camp in Leopard.) everything went just fine, but when it came time to uninstall, I was unable to delete or unpartition the linux swap files. Does this fix that in any way?

I stressed about installing something like this, worrying that it would cause unspeakable damage, but it worked without any hitches. Especially compared with getting Linux configured for my MBP. :)
