Score! iTunes 8 Adds CD-TEXT
One of my biggest gripes with iTunes’ ability to burn CDs is the fact that it hasn’t supported CD-TEXT, something that my car offers when a CD that has the text is inserted. As a result, I have been forced to either manually go through my iTunes Music folder searching for tracks to burn from Roxio’s Toast, or simply burn full albums straight from their respective folders. But not any more.
With the introduction of iTunes 8 at Apple’s “Let’s Rock” event, among the new headline features like “Genius” and the cool new method of viewing media, Apple has taken the liberty to add CD-TEXT. No longer do I have to use Toast to burn playlists from my iTunes! Now the burning process is even further consolidated. After searching in the past for solutions to this problem and finding the huge number of people begging for a solution, I’m sure that Apple has many even happier customers now that they’ve added even more usefulness to iTunes.

Update: Oops. As pointed out by many of the comments, this has been around in iTunes since version 7. This was a minor overlook on my part, as I’ve never actually had the burn window come up until this version with the option of adding CD-TEXT. Sorry for the confusion…

I don’t think that this is a new feature. I’m currently using iTunes version 7.6.2 and this option is present. I’m not sure with which version this was added but I recall using it for quite a while now. It’s good to see this pointed out, though. Not many people are aware it’s there.
I’m pretty sure I saw this option in an older version of iTunes.
This feature has been around for a while, and was really pushed in iTunes 7.
Yeah, I have not even upgraded to iTunes 8 yet, and I have been doing CD-TEXT through at least all of version 7.
Probably should have checked that before writing a whole post on it.
CD Text has been there for some time now. This is not a new feature of iTunes 8.
I’m sorry, but it’s kinda lame , I have been using this for a while now.
Maybe you might want to update this post to say “I’m sorry I did not notice this before!”
Ah, glad you guys are on the ball. I’ll see if Jake will fix this up a little bit…
Sorry for the mixup guys, I didn’t realize this was a feature of iTunes 7, but it’s probably a good thing to point out anyway…
Yes, I am glad you posted this. I’m happy for the people who already noticed this. However I searched for “itunes 8 “cd text”" and I found this post, exactly what I was looking for. I never noticed this was previously available.
to be honest you don’t have to manually browse your itunes folder to get the songs in toast.
what i used to do is highlight the songs in itunes, whether it be an entire playlist or a chunk of the library, and just drag that selection into the toast window.
you can also use the same technique to copy certain songs, for example, to a usb stick.
how do you turn this function on or off? where do i find the burn settings page?
I’ve just nicely started using iTunes version 8; however, in attempting to burn a playlist with tracks that have a full complement of information, the “Include CD Text” box is faded – meaning that I can see it but just can’t check it. Not sure if I’ve overlooked something pretty basic or if I’ve encountered a glitch. Anyone?
THIS DOES NOT WORK!!!
I have been burning from my iTunes library to a CD, and although I have checked the Include CD Text option, the CD just list the songs as track1, track2, etc.
Same here, it does not work for me.
Mine still doesn’t work… and I always have add cd text ticked in my preferences. It’s never ever worked… any advice?
