Introducing MacApper 4.0

We have been working hard over the past few months with our new parent company, Escalate Media, to completely revamp and renew MacApper. As you can see, we have a completely new design, however, the relaunch is not just superficial. To start we have added a rating system for all of our reviews. The rating system includes a letter grade as well as pros and cons of the application.

We also have instated a strict integrity policy for reviews and have a strict boundary between ad sales and the reviewers which is described in detail in our new review policy. We strive to provide reviews the Mac community can rely on and trust. In addition to reviews, we will also be covering news on the Mac software front. As a part of our newly relaunched site, we have cleaned up the forums (to be re-skinned in the near future) and added a section for developers and development talk. We hope to see all of you active in the comments and the forums.

Some plans we have for the near future include reviews of iPhone apps as well as the reintroduction of the MacApper Podcast. The podcast will be a weekly discussion between our editors about our favorite stories of the week as well as features on the Mac community and interviews with developers.

Look forward to this and more as we continue to improve MacApper. With you, we hope to make MacApper the premier destination for Mac and iPhone application reviews.

The new layout looks nice. Big improvement over the old. One question though, when are you going to take care of the forum? You seem to have a huge problem with spammers, it doesn’t look very good on your part.

We actually have taken care of the spam in the forum already. Do you still see spam there?

That’s next on the list. The design and coding process on the design has been complicated at best, and re-theming the forum is a completely different process than the site.

We have taken care of the spam though. That was a big priority for us. If you see some, please, drop us a line.

Much Much better the v3. I might even come back from hiding behind the RSS reader since the design is eye candy.

One small thing: at the bottom, the quality of the image with “MacApper is a part of Escalate Media” is not the same as the background gradient.

Other than that, I like it. Perhaps the transition between the “Auroras” in the top banner could be made more seamless (a little earlier, to avoid the sudden drop in colour before mirroring)?

The cool thing about the header bg is that we can switch that out. So with the seasons, or really anytime we want, we can put something else back there.

I have to say you’ve done some great work! In last years I’ve seen some terrible downgrades of my favorite websites like Spymac (which is now completely lost for me) or Eurosport (that’s became Yahoo! Eurosport) but MacApper keeps getting better and better. :)

SpyMac? They’re still around? I can’t believe that their fast fall from usefulness. What a dump it turned into.
