News: Slingbox iPhone Application Coming Soon

slingSling Media has just announced that their must anticipated Slingbox iPhone application will be released in Quarter 1 of 2009.  If you are not currently aware, Slingbox is a device which allows you to wirelessly connect to your television (and DVR) from anywhere in the World.  The product began as a way for computer users to watch and control their TV’s wherever they had an internet connection, but it has since grown to work on mobile devices including the BlackBerry, Windows Mobile Smartphone, Palm, and Symbian devices. This technology gives any Slingbox user the ability to watch TV on their computer or on the go using their mobile device.  However, up until this point, the Slingbox for iPhone application had only been a rumor.

As Sling Media’s new iPhone dedicated page suggests, the application should now be right around the corner and it will become the first TV streaming application for the iPhone.  Also featured on the site is a nice teaser video, which shows exactly how the application is going to look and run on the iPhone.  It features smooth slide out menus which allow you to control your favorite stations, browse the guide, program your DVR, and pretty much everything else you can do on your TV.

The applications price has not yet been announced but it would be nice if it was free for current users, as it will be a useless application for anyone who has not bought a Slingbox.

You can sign up to be contacted over email when the application launches at this link.

Would be nice if it were free but unlikely. The versions for palm and windows mobile are both $29.95. I’m guessing this will cost that much and wouldn’t be surprised if it was even a little more. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for something lower though…

I’d pay… It’s also May 2009 and still don’t see it in the app store.
