Yoot Saito’s “Gabo” Cancelled by Apple

gaboBack in 2000, Dreamcast owners around the world celebrated the odd and wonderful piece of software that was Seaman.  Seaman had you raising the titular character as a pet of sorts through voice commands, and it would learn about you and your habits the more you played.  When developer Yoot Saito announced he would be working on a similar project for the iPhone called Gabo, the hearts of Seaman fans were aflutter with anticipation.  Sadly, that anticipation must now come to an end.

Yoot’s official website (Japanese language only) now features a postscript that describes the game as dead in the water.  The reason?  Apple rejected the title.  According to the translation on Kotaku, “the reason for this was something like that the interaction with the Peking man was unpleasant.”  Rather than going back and making the required changes, the team abandoned the project to focus on the upcoming Seaman DS.

Considering the amount of shovelware available on the AppStore, it seems strange that a title from a cult-popular developer would be turned away.  It’s a shame too, as anything Yoot produced would have certainly been unlike anything we’ve seen on the AppStore so far.

This is a real shame, tons of fart apps but Seaman is denied, I feel like my Dreamcast and Leonard Nimoy just said “I regret to inform you Seaman is dead” again.

“Seaman is denied” ermmm…. Gabo got denied… NOT Seaman, Gabo was made by the same guy as Seaman, Saito, but he didn’t made Seaman on the iPhone, he did another game, Gabo, that got denied.
