AutoCAD’s Return on the Mac

For those of you who work with three dimensional models for your blueprints for building, bridges and other structures, you were forced to use a Windows machine, or if you had a Mac you had to install Windows for one of the most widely use 3D rendering construction softwares, AutoCAD. Many people, believe it or not, never had knowledge that AutoCAD use to be developed for Mac OS. Now the highly acclaimed software is making it’s way back on to the Mac platform.

There has been rumors going around on the net of the software making it’s way back to Mac OS. Then The Apple Lounge posted images of a beta of the software running on the Apple platform from a foreign website entitled italiamac.it. For those of you who are not familiar with the software, AutoCAD is a 2D/3D drafting and designing software that many constructional organizations and architects use. Introduced in the 1980s, many groups used the software, which at the time a Mac version was developed. However, during the turn if the 90s, software was discontinued on that platform. Many reasons for this has been disputed, including one that pointed out the cause being the failing of Apple and the leaving of Jobs and the Woz leadership, but with the recent snapshots of the beta taken, it’s clear that the software is making a return. The provider of the images state that the beta runs quite poorly, but it is the first beta available and there is plenty of time for developers of the application to hone it’s performance. The beta seeding is in 64-bit and present support for Multi-Touchâ„¢ gestures.

The software seems fairly fresh and undoubtedly will have more seeds in to helping optimize it to perfection for use on the Mac. Many users of the software have desired for a version developed for the Mac, reportedly because of the Mac’s security, stability, and performance of multiple applications running in the environment. There has been no official word in when the public release of the software will be available for purchase. Video of the software are available below.

Did anyone do some proof reading before you posted this? Or did you just use some automated translation tool to translate it into English? The write up is so bad it makes me cringe.

Very nice article, I enjoyed reading it. Can’t wait for AutoCAD to make a return. I already know that my school is going to be embracing this when it is in it’s retail version.

Well its about time!! I’ve been waiting for years for Autodesk to get with the times and make software that can run on the MAC OS. The only reason I have Windows on my MAC is so that I can use Autodesk Architecture and 3DS Max. Once this comes out I’m saying good by to Windows!

Good riddence to Windows. It is about time AutoCAD came back home to MAC. Now I can toss my PC and make more room for my MAC.

As of October, 2010 you can download AutoCAD 11 for Mac (not beta anymore). I for one am thrilled. Finally a reason to ditch windows for good.

I don’t think SolidWorks will ever come to the Mac. Best hope is that since Autodesk now has made AutoCAD for Mac, the also release Inventor for Mac. Inventor is very similar to SolidWorks and would most likely be an easy transition for any SW user. I use SolidWorks daily and would welcome an all-mac design environment.

There have been some rumors going about that Apple has pulled AirPrint from the final release of iOS 4.2. Apparently, a rumor came about yesterday claiming that Apple has axed the feature from the iOS 4.2 final release because of some unforeseen circumstances. Distraught by the speculated exemption of the features, a customer decided to shoot Steve Jobs a letter about it to get a further understanding of the matter. Steve replied saying that AirPrint has not been cut from the final version of the anticipated software update.
