Apple Looking Into Location-Temporary Apps
We look for patents that Apple submits from time to time to see what they are thinking of over there at HQ. A patent filed back in November of 08 shows Apple interest in venturing in applications that automatically appear on your iPhone OS when you come in proximity of certain locations. According to the patent for the software, a user who is within range of a supporting location will see applications appear on his iDevice that give him multiple options and information to access. The software would be managed by a central server that could pair the device to the network by way of Wi-Fi or other means and deliver applications oriented with the current position. Apple provides two examples where the tech could be implemented: A library and a restaurant.
