Fring Updates Application To Support 3G Video Calling

Fring has updated their application to support video calling over AT&T’s data network. Users of the app can video call any other phone with the application installed.

With the new fring for iPhone you get lots of fring goodies including 2 way video-calling where you want and with whom you want!

- Face-to-face video calls with friends on their Droids, Nokia (Symbian S60) and other iPhones

- Video calls over 3G or Wi-Fi (Performance over 3G is subject to mobile operators’ 3G coverage & quality)

While the additional function Fring implements does indeed work, we here at MacApper, after our experience with the updated software, feel that this feature was more of a right-to-claim that this function was implemented first rather than thoroughly developed as the new aspect of the software does fall quite short of the quality we were expecting over the new cellular data ability and doesn’t exhibit the intuitiveness, innovation and ease-of-use of FaceTime. Still, the group has managed to incorporate 3G video calling on the new iPhone and enabled it to work across multiple platforms and we find if you really want to place calls over 3G, this app will have a place on your home screen, given you are willing to live with the unavoidable issues the software has. Fring is available on Apple’s App Store and Android’s Marketplace as well as other mobile platforms such as Symbian. Aside from that, the update also brings utilization of iOS 4′s new features such as multitasking, cross-social community integration allowing for Twitter and Facebook updates and chats and some improvements in calls and the address book.

There have been some rumors going about that Apple has pulled AirPrint from the final release of iOS 4.2. Apparently, a rumor came about yesterday claiming that Apple has axed the feature from the iOS 4.2 final release because of some unforeseen circumstances. Distraught by the speculated exemption of the features, a customer decided to shoot Steve Jobs a letter about it to get a further understanding of the matter. Steve replied saying that AirPrint has not been cut from the final version of the anticipated software update.
