iDisk for iPhone Updated: v1.2 Brings iPad and Multitasking Support; Bug Fixes for iMovie

Apple has released a new version of iDisk for iPhone on the App Store. The update makes the app universal to the iPhone, iPod and iPad. Multitasking support is also brought to this installment of the software as well as background music from the MobileMe server.

Since the debut of the App Store, many developers have found a highly profitable haven to distribute their properties to masses of people without the need for some huge funding for shipping efforts. It has become so successful for the little guys that the big boys decided to come and play. One thing about the App Store that Apple stresses is that everyone is equal. No matter how big or small you are, the possibilities are endless and the same. Ngmoco and Tapulous, two of the smaller developers of the iOS platform, compete with Square Enix and Electronic Arts, two of the biggest in the world. Whether big or small, all developing houses bring their collection of titles to the iOS environment, such as the alarmingly popular Tap Tap Revenge franchise from Tapulous, to console games from the big houses like EAs Madden and Need for Speed franchises or SEGAs Sonic the Hedgehog series.

Cloud-Based/Wireless Syncing iTunes Will Be Here Soon

Sources have garnered some intel that Apple is on the verge of launching wireless syncing within a new cloud-based iTunes software for all of its iOS devices.

We have been told iTunes will be getting a huge cloud capability that many people have been asking for (and logically thought would happen sooner or later). These new capabilities are broken down into three groups:

1. Streaming music and movies from Apple’s servers to your computers, devices, etc.
2. Streaming music and movies from your home computers to your other computers, remote devices, etc.
3. Wireless iTunes syncing with devices

This week, we profiled the recent scrutiny Google has been getting from developers and the press about using their kill switch on some applications in the Android Marketplace. It was seen that Googles Android had some trouble preventing malicious software from infiltrating the marketplace being that the basis of the removal of the applications were because they were disguised from doing what the apps really do. Google reiterated to the press that the situation was under control and that the issue of malicious software invading the Marketplace is not an issue.

This week we found information that Apple may be indeed planning on porting the iWork suite to the iPhone and iPod touch. On the company’s offering of AppleCare when consumers venture to purchase contract free iPhones, Apple specifically mentions support for a variant of things with the their newest brainchild, including “iWork for iPhone”

Over-The-Air HD Video Uploading “In The Future” of iOS

One of the outstanding features of the iPhone 4 is the device’s ability to record 720p full HD video. However, it has recently become apparent that when you are trying to upload Hi-Def content to MobileMe or YouTube, your footage is compressed to a lower resolution. Some people have went further to email Steve Jobs and ask him when will they be able to upload HD content without having to sync their iPhone to their Mac or PC.

SJ, as he has been doing throughout the year, has emailed someone who has asked him the aforementioned question. The pioneer wasn’t as terse as he usually is in his responses.

Facebook 3.1.4 Update Now Live. iOS 4 Support.


Just a brief update for everyone. Facebook 3.1.4 is now available in the App Store. The new update takes advantage of the fast-app switching multitasking service and the iPhone 4′s Retina Display. The update doesn’t weigh too much, staying under the 20MB 3G download limit giving the user the option to download the new software through Wi-Fi or 3G networking

Hulu Plus & Flashlight App for iPhone 4

Hulu on Tuesday announced the plans for their new Hulu Plus subscription service for television content. The subscription plan is set to give users, who are willing to pay, a sizable quantity of exclusive content from current television programs to ones showcased in TV history. The company will also be providing that content at a full 720p resolution and allowing users to access this content through Apples iDevices (iPod, iPhone and iPad). Via an application, users will be able to stream content from Hulu servers through Wi-Fi or 3G, opposed to the companys traditional Internet-oriented means. Aside from the company making ventures on the iOS platform, they have also stated that Samsung Internet-connected televisions and Blu-Ray players will also support the new initiative. Sony and Vizio are also scheduled to provide additional support. Hulu has even ventures on to the gaming platform stating that PS3 and Xbox 360 support will come in the future.
