Square Is Coming…
Update for those of you who are waiting on their Square dongle. Just got confirmation that they have sent my card reader to me and it is currently in transit. Wanted to inform you guys so that you know Square isn’t sleeping and they are indeed on top of the matter.
Apple Is Prepping Up/Apple Update iWork To Version 9.0.4
Apple is hardly ever behind are they? The company is getting everything set for the September 1 Media Event kicking off at 10AM Pacific time (thats 11 oclock for you folks in the mountains, Noon for the midwest, and 1PM for the people on the east coast), which is the usual time they have been throwing these things. People are expecting a wide array of developments to show their face next week, including the new iPod touch, iTV and a social web-based iTunes. The iPod as been the subject of the week recently with some new cases for the iPod touch being pitted into the while giving the impression that the hardware will be receiving the same squared off goodness of the iPhone 4. Not only that, the iPod nano looks like it might taking off the world famous Click Wheel (yeah, you heard right. Thats what the buzz is on the Net.) Well, like we said, we have the day circled in red on our calendar.
H.264 Free for All
Wait! No need to reach for that wallet developers! MPEG LA has spoken. H.264 will be royalty-free for you to use to give your video content on the Web that thumbs-up, hi-def look that can be played on Mac, PCs, iPads, iPhone and iPod alike. They announced today that the standard will stay free for the entire life of the user license. So, those of you worrying that you might have spend some greenbacks a couple years from now to use it, it is officially a negative.
Apple Media Event Set For September 1
Just a quick update to keep you guys informed. Engadget just gave word (some thirty minutes ago) that they have received invites for a media event Apple is going to be holding on September 1. They even gave the image they got with the invitation, which you probably noticed. Pretty much sums it up. The Revolution WILL Be Televised
Well there has been plenty of news to come rolling out right at the beginning of the week. One of the latest developments is built around the new Apple TV (speculated to be rebranded as iTV). Founder of Digg, Kevin Rose, chimed in via his blog by saying that the new set top box from Apple is going to “change everything.”
iOS 4.1 To Fix Speed Issues On iPhone 3G
While we love the iPhone, we have to say, the performance on the second generation iPhone, the iPhone 3G, is not exactly what we would call “responsive”. It’s almost like it doesn’t want to listen to you when you give it a command. One user was so fed up with the performance of the iPhone 3G running the new iOS 4 software that he personally sent off a letter to the head honcho Steve Jobs.
Apple Looking Into Bringing iOS and Mac OS Together
Yet another patent presented itself today. This one illustrates Apple trying to bring iOS and it’s core software, Mac OS X, together. This would allow users the best of both the touch-based and mouse-based interfaces.
Within the patent, Apple showcases a hypothetical (or is it) design of an iMac and how altering the position of the Mac will automatically be detected and switch from the mouse-based operating system to the touch-based one. This effect could even be initiated if the user ere to hold the Mac in a manner as they would a tablet computer (i.e. iPad)
Apple Looking Into Providing “Unauthorized” Software Detection and Use In iOS
As if we didn’t see this coming. A patent submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office has been revealed showcasing Apple is working on developing a system to detect the use of unauthorized software (i.e. jail-breaking) on their collection of iOS devices.
Flash In the Mobile Space FAIL
Seems like Adobe still has some work to do, and the clock is ticking. According to the folks over at LAPTOP, Flash is shaky at best. With the HTML5 movement taking over both Vimeo and Yahoo! and all the “Flash in the mobile space” hubbub, the group decided to judge for themselves the performance of Flash on a mobile device. What better candidate to host this testing none other than the latest Android device Droid 2, at least, thats what we thought. After some thorough use of Flash on the device, the verdict from LAPTOP: Thumbs down. Way down.
Google To Release Chrome OS Tablet By The End Of The Year?
Next to the Verizon iPhone rumors, this has to be another worn out rumor that is flying everywhere on the Internet. The Google tablet, (it’s unknown what they will actually call it), the latest input of this rumor from Download Squad is that this tablet computer from Google will be packing 2GB of physical memory, a 32GB SSD at very least, running some version of Chrome OS (yes, Chrome, not Android) and NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 graphics processor.
