Camera+ Gets Kicked Out Of The App Store

Apple pulled the plug on a popular application in the App Store. Camera+ developed by tap tap tap, was given the boot because it violated developer license agreement with a new “Easter egg” feature. The company got caught red handed showing users how to activate the camera shutter using the volume button of the iPhone with a little workaround that could be activated through Safari on iOS. VolumeSnap, the company dubbed feature, was rejected by Cupertino because they said it created “user confusion.” Tap tap tap said they were a little blue about the rejection of their feature, but given the success they were having on the App Store, it didn’t really matter.

“While we’re disappointed with their decision, we’re at least happy that they’re being perfectly clear about the exact reason for the rejection and that they’re being consistent about it. I was told that overriding the volume controls is one of the most common reasons for app rejection.”

“…So after two short months in the App Store, Camera+ has pulled in a whopping half a million dollars. Needless to say, we couldn’t be more pleased.”

However, the app was updated recently and the wrote in the VolumeSnap feature, without Apple’s knowledge. Then, the company got on their Twitter wall telling users how to activate the feature through Safari iOS. Apple gained information on the matter and…you know how the rest of the story goes.

Not the first time that someone try to sneak something pass Cupertino. A flashlight application a while back tried to enable free tethering through a SOCKS proxy method, which again, Apple caught wind of and proceeded to axe the app from the Store. Apple has mentioned that nearly all their developers don’t give them any hassle when creating or updating their applications. However, they do have a few mischievous ones who try to be slick and sneak stuff pass them in the App Store. Be that as it may, the company has also said they are now keeping a sharp eye out for anything they don’t know about and are working to foolproof the issue. At least the made a cool half million in a two month span, right?

Apple are being jerks about this. I can’t think of anything I’d like more with regard to the camera than to able to use a proper button to take a photo.

Do we really need a volume button while taking a photo? Are we really that easily confused that we’d enable the ability ourselves and then get all mystified because we can’t turn the volume up while were taking photo?

[...] Back in August, we reported that Apple gave the application Camera+ the boot from the App Store. Reason being is that the application used the volume buttons as a means to activate the shutter on the iPhone camera. After being absent from the App Store for almost the entire fourth quarter of the year, Apple has given the green light for the software’s return. [...]

There have been some rumors going vabout that Apple has pulled AirPrint from the final release of iOS 4.2. Apparently, a rumor came about yesterday claiming that Apple has axed the feature from the iOS 4.2 final release because of some unforeseen circumstances. Distraught by the speculated exemption of the features, a customer decided to shoot Steve Jobs a letter about it to get a further understanding of the matter. Steve replied saying that AirPrint has not been cut from the final version of the anticipated software update.
