Camera+ Gets Kicked Out Of The App Store
Apple pulled the plug on a popular application in the App Store. Camera+ developed by tap tap tap, was given the boot because it violated developer license agreement with a new “Easter egg” feature. The company got caught red handed showing users how to activate the camera shutter using the volume button of the iPhone with a little workaround that could be activated through Safari on iOS. VolumeSnap, the company dubbed feature, was rejected by Cupertino because they said it created “user confusion.” Tap tap tap said they were a little blue about the rejection of their feature, but given the success they were having on the App Store, it didn’t really matter.
Revamped Apple TV Update/Apple and Futuretap Resolve Issues With Patent Dispute
Engadget seems to have the word on the Apple TV front. Apparently, Apple is planning on taking the “Apple” from the name of their hobbyist project and replacing it with the ubiquitous “i” branding that it’s famously known and credited for. On top of that, the new development won’t be able to playback 1080i or 1080p high definition video. Also, the new software peddling this development is said to run applications and even get it’s own section in the iTunes Store.
Apple Introduces App Store Volume Purchasing/Adobe’s Flash Hardware-Accelerated
Education is still getting that bang-for-their-buck whenever they are dealing with Apple. Is was pointed out the other day that Apple has changed some of the terms in the developer agreement allowing bulk education purchases to receive up to a 50% discount on the App Store. Educational institutions can receive a voucher from the Apple Store for Education in $100, $500, $1,000, $1,500 and $10,000 denominations that would be sent by mail from Apple and redeemed right inside the App Store application (like iTunes gift cards) through a Program Facilitator.
Apple Releases iOS 4.0.2 For iPhone And 3.2.2 For iPad. Fixes PDF Hole.
Well, Apple didn’t wait until the iOS 4.1 update. Cupertino has released iOS 4.0.2 for the iPhone and iOS 3.2.2 for the iPad that addresses the PDF vulnerability that iPhone Dev Team member comex used to jailbreak iPhones, iPods and iPads right through Safari (no desktop machine required).
Apple Adds Email Support For FaceTime
The new iOS 4.1 beta that was released to developers earlier this week probably has presented the most supportive information to the theory that Apple will be applying FaceTime to devices that are not iPhones. Cupertino has given email address support for FaceTime calls. That means the future possibility of you calling your friends whether they are on an iPhone, iPod, iPad or even a Mac has gotten ever-so bright. A new option in the Contacts app gives you the option to place a FaceTime call through email.
Apple Vulnerability Fix Ready To Go, Graphics Update And A New Addition To Apple
Well after a few hours of the pretty largely publicized web-based jailbreak fiasco, Apple has already shopped up a fix and said that it will be released in the next firmware update of iOS, according to what CNET is reporting.
On Wednesday an Apple spokeswoman said in a statement, “We’re aware of this reported issue, we have already developed a fix and it will be available to customers in an upcoming software update.”
European Commission Move to the iPhone
Seems like Europeans like what the iPhone have to offer. The European Commission is putting the iPhone in their pockets and taking the Blackberry out. The EC has added support for the iPhone and is declining use of the Blackberry. The move is said to affect more than 2,000 people.
CNET states that the European Union’s executive branch has been in search of a smartphone that can handle the new deployment of a synchronization tool the organization will be using. They tested a variety of mobile OSes, including Blackberry OS, iOS and Android and they’ve found that the iPhone and select devices running Google’s Android operating system are more than capable of completing the task.
Hacker’s Release Software To Unlock iPhone
On the heels of the iPhone/iPad/iPod web-based jailbreak, hackers have now released software that will allow users to unlock their iPhone from the AT&T network and allow Apple’s latest spawn to be used on any GSM-based carrier (that means T-Mobile in the US). “ultrasn0w,” as the powers that be call it, is operated on JB’ed iPhones and has since been updated to work on the iPhone 4 with it’s baseband version 01.59.
Cloud-Based iTunes Getting Just a Little Bit Cloudy
Some licensing issues are pushing back the date of the cloud-based iTunes that just about everyone is waiting for. According to a source that CNET had a word with, Apple and the pesky record labels are still trying to come to some type of common ground. The record companies have a rap sheet of being very stubborn when it comes to distributing there content.
“Apple Is The Biggest Startup In The World.” Remote App Due For An Update
Just in case you didn’t watch Steve Jobs in his All Things Digital interview, he mentioned that Apple is the “biggest startup in the world.” Cupertino doesn’t even have committees (imagine that)! Being that they are set up like a startup, they have one of the most flexible operations in the industry. A very intriguing post on the blog of former Apple engineer Sachin Agarwal gives some more insight on how things go down internally at Apple. He also explains that the reason why Apple’s Remote app has been refreshed yet is because the dev is…just a little bit busy.
