iOS 4.2: Beta 3

Just got the word that Apple has released the third beta for iOS 4.2 to developers along with the corresponding iOS software development kit for the iPad, iPhone and iPod. Apple decided to let devs get their hands on this two weeks after the second beta for the mobile operating system.

DeNA Bags ngmoco for $400 Million

Ngmoco is undoubtedly one of the most successful game developers on the iOS platform. Makers of the highly popular adventure game Rolando and the first person shooting game Eliminate, the founders of the company Neil Young, Bob Stevenson, Alan Yu and Joe Keene have decided to be absorbed by Japanese social game developer DeNA for a cool 400 million dollars. Founder and CEO of DeNA Tomoko Namba had some nice things to say for the talent picked implying that they have been looking for talent like this in the market for a while now.

You’ve probably all heard of the bug in iOS 4 that causes recurring alarms to go off an hour early on daylight savings time. ZDNet reports that a fix is on the way in iOS 4.1.1.

Apple Blasts Spotify US Launch

Most Americans may not be aware of a free music subscription service that is gaining a lot of attention in Europe. Spotify, originated in Sweden, is that service. Stream music anywhere, anytime, all the time, for free. You can share music with your friends, create custom playlists, listen to new albums, stream to your mobile device from the cloud instantly, all for free. Makes sense that with the few people in the US who know of Spotifys existence cant wait for the service to hit the American part of the Internet. Apple, however, wouldnt exactly like it too much if Spotify came to the American sandbox to play, being that they totally dominate the digital content distribution industry through iTunes. In fact, Cupertino is in the process of explaining to labels why it would be rather difficult to sell something that people could get elsewhere for free legally.

Well, some people (including me) have been waiting for Google to officially launch their photographic search technology on the iPhone. Wait no more, Google has updated their official application on the iOS platform to support the Google Goggles search technology.

AirPrint Gets the Axe on Second-Gen iPod.

9 to 5 Mac chimed in this week stating that Apple has seem to have made the AirPrint capabilities that are going to be debuted on the iPad, new and previous iPhone, and the new iPod touch as well its predecessor non-available to the second generation iPod touch. Apple originally announced that the device was compatible back on September 15, however, two days after the press released was issued, only support for the third and fourth generation of iPod touch devices was present.

Facebook Head Says He’s “Very Confident” In Apple Ping Deal

Silicon Valley Insider got word from the Chief Tech Officer of Facebook Bret Taylor stating that he is “very confident” that Facebook will close a deal with Apple to have the social network play with Apple’s new music community Ping.

iOS 4.2 beta for iPad

So, Apple has released the second installment of the iOS 4.2 beta for the iPad two weeks after the first one and devs have put the software under a microscope to see whats new. A couple of tweaks have been discovered such as the app switch animation has been altered to offer a bit more candy for your eyes. Embedded video plays better.

AirPlay streaming to the iPad?

Since the debut of the new AppleTV, many people have been stripping the software down to its roots to discover what Apple’s next moves are with their hobbyist project. Since then, it has been discovered that the baseline for the AppleTV software “LowTide” is the same one from the iOS software. Almost instantaneously, people began to assume that Apple is planning to put the App Store in the living room. However, with the footage released this week, the folks in Cupertino might be bringing the AppleTV software to the iPad and iPhone, at least, thats what folks are saying. TUAW reports that Apple has made compatibility with the iOS devices an Easter egg.
