iOS 4.2 Released: New Features
Apple has finally released iOS 4.2 and we are loving it on our iPads, as well as our iPhones at MacApper. There are a bunch of new features in the new update, but rather than focus on the one that Apple has headline on their website, you probably haven’t noticed some of the other things Cupertino has decided to polish up.
Proof of Apple MobileMe Going Free?
In the recent past, we profiled the speculation that Apple has intentions of making their MobileMe syncing service free to use by the public. However, there was really no solid evidence to support the accusations. This week, devs drove deeper into the iOS 4.2.1 golden master build and found some very revealing frameworks that likely suggest that Cupertino will be making some aspect of it’s syncing service free to the public.
Our friends over at MacRumors showcased findings that feature a list of error messages that imply that Apple will indeed offer free service of MobileMe.
Apple Update BootCamp to 3.2
Cupertino has updated the BootCamp software that allows users to install Microsoft Windows on their Macintosh machines. Version 3.2 of the software offers fixes and tweaks as well as performance and stability improvements
Printopia and FingerPrint Add Support for AirPrint.
It’s was profiled last week that Apple pulled support for AirPrint through printers that what shared through a Mac or PC. That particular aspect of AirPrint has been restricted to Hewlett-Packard printers.
Mutant Bash Comes to iOS
Possible the best-looking shooter to make its way the iOS platform would be id softwares Mutant Bash TV. The software is based on the graphics engine derived from another next generation shooter that the group is working on called Rage. The game has officially made its debut on the App Store this week
Djay for iPad Coming
When the iPad was introduced earlier in the year, many people expected on the music aspect that a fully fledge DJ application was bound to emerge. Surprisingly, there has been very few applications that have been birthed and the ones that do exist are limited. That might very possibly change with the release of iOS 4.2. Algoriddim, the group who develops the popular djay application for the Mac, has intention in taking full advantage of the new audio capabilities of the new software update. The group has ported their application for the Mac to iOS and is twaeking it to perfection for the iPad. Some of the features that will be included in the new djay app will be.
Hulu Updates App. Lower Price
Hulu this week updated their application Hulu Plus for the iPhone, iPod, and iPad. Few of the additions that have been added to the app have been,
- New split-screen player on iPad
- Enhanced queue and subscription management
- Improved playback performance
- New thumbnail viewer on iPad
- Miscellaneous bug fixes
This update comes as Hulu lowers their subscription service price lowered to $7.99 a month. They also announced that the premium service has come out of preview mode and went public.
Google Docs Finally Goes Mobile
Google made public in September that they will be working on making Google Docs mobile. Since then, company has been tweaking the web-app for use on mobile devices. This week, they introduced that Google Docs is officially ready fro public use on Android 2.2 and iOS (Android 2.2 or higher and iOS 3.0 and higher only).
Adobe Testing Optimizing Version of Flash
One of Adobes dominating technologies has been one of the topic of discussions in the tech world. Flash has gotten much attention from Apple stating that the tech is definitely not ready for the mobile arena to experts stating that the tech will eventually take a backseat as HTML5 moves in to replace. A move from Cupertino that has gotten much attention from the public is their decision to no longer include Flash pre-installed on the platform, starting with Apples praised MacBook Air. Ars Technica put Flash under a microscope and tested it on the new Apple notebook, declaring that the results show that when browsing the web on the machine with Flash took a dramatic blow to the battery. The review getting much attention as it provided another form of proof to Steve Jobs Thoughts on Flash open letter. This, in turn, lead Chief Technology Officer of Adobe Kevin Lynch to indeed confirm that it does take more power to run Flash than to not, not forgetting to mention that HTML5 could use the same amount of power.
Google Releases Official Google Voice App for iOS

Well, a lot of people have been waiting for this for a while. Google had officially released it’s Google Voice app for the iPhone, iPod, and iPad.
